Simple And Easy Technique For Kitchen Cabinet Refacing

Kitchen Cabinet Refacing means to only replacing or refinishing the front of the cabinets. There are a couple of ways this can be completed such as removing all of the hardware and either painting, staining or putting an adhesive back veneer. This is a fairly simple process with the entire project being completed in a weekend, depending on the amount of cabinets that need refacing.

To do the project yourself simply follow these easy steps for new looking cabinets in no time. Painting them is usually the easiest and quickest way to reface. Take all hardware off and remove the cabinet door and drawers. If you are going to use the same hinges, take them off, clean them and set aside. The frame will also need redone in order to blend with the new cabinet doors.

You will need to purchase sandpaper, paint or stain, sealer, paintbrushes, sanding block and knobs or handles for each drawer and door. Using a sand block with medium or course sandpaper, depending on how deep you will need to go, sand the frame, doors and drawers. Using a fine sandpaper to smooth the area before painting or staining.

Wipe all dust from sanding off with a clean soft cloth that is slightly damp. If painting use a brush that is designed to not lose brush hairs and apply paint in thin, even layers. If staining, use a brush designed from staining and applies according to directions. Painting will usually require two coats so allow to dry before applying the second coat.

When second coat of paint or stain has dried completely, lightly sand with extra fine sandpaper to remove any bumps, dirt or bristles that may have gotten in and wipe off dust. Apply a layer of sealer and allow to dry overnight. Put on the new pulls and knobs before or after hanging, which ever is most comfortable for you.

After the hardware has been replaced and the frame paint is dry, hang the doors back in original place with the previously used hinges.
